Protect Ocean, Land & Fresh Water

Ocean, land and freshwater issues refer to challenges and difficulties that impact ecosystems, biodiversity, and the natural resources essential for human survival,

  • Ocean pollution: Plastic waste, chemical runoff, and oil contamination are severely harming marine ecosystems and aquatic life.
  • Land degradation: Unsustainable farming, deforestation, and urban expansion are reducing soil fertility and damaging habitats.
  • Freshwater scarcity: The overuse and pollution of freshwater sources are threatening access to safe water for communities and agriculture.
  • Biodiversity loss: Destruction of natural habitats on land and in water is causing the decline of many species.
  • Wetland destruction: Wetlands are disappearing due to encroachment, pollution, and poor management, affecting flood control and wildlife.
  • Overfishing: Unsustainable fishing practices are depleting marine resources and threatening food security.
  • Water pollution: Rivers, canals, and lakes are being polluted by industrial waste, sewage, and plastic, making water unsafe for life.

Volunteer For Environment is addressing these issues to protect ocean, land, and freshwater resources for future generations.

Coastal ecosystems protect communities from storms, support fisheries, and preserve biodiversity. But pollution, salinity, and rising sea levels are placing these ecosystems at serious risk in Bangladesh.

Productive land is vital for agriculture, livelihoods, and ecological balance. However, land degradation, erosion, and unplanned development are reducing the ability of land to support life and food production.

Freshwater sources are essential for drinking, farming, and sanitation. Pollution, over-extraction, and climate impacts are making these resources increasingly vulnerable across both rural and urban regions.

Protect Ocean, Land & Fresh Water

Country Scenario

Bangladesh depends heavily on its rivers, wetlands, land, and coastal resources, yet these natural systems are under increasing pressure from pollution, climate change, and unsustainable use. Protecting these ecosystems is essential for maintaining livelihoods, public health, and environmental resilience.

Recognizing the urgency of conserving these natural resources, JAAGO focused on working closely with communities, youth, and vulnerable populations to promote awareness, restoration, and sustainable practices. volunteer has been organizing campaigns and grassroots interventions to encourage environmental responsibility and active participation in conservation.

Recent Interventions

In recent years volunteer for environment organized awareness campaigns, clean-up drives, and community engagement activities focused on reducing plastic waste, protecting water bodies, and restoring degraded land. Volunteers in coastal and riverine regions have actively raised their voices for ecosystem protection and sustainable resource use. Till date our volunteers have implemented 100+ projects to protect nature and promote environmental sustainability in collaboration with various partners.

Protecting ocean, land, and freshwater resources refers to the long-term effort to conserve ecosystems, reduce pollution, and ensure sustainable use of natural assets. These actions are necessary to maintain biodiversity, reduce environmental risks, and secure a healthier future for communities and the planet.

The impacts of environmental degradation on ocean, land, and freshwater include:

  • Loss of biodiversity: Degraded ecosystems cause species decline and threaten the balance of nature.
  • Water insecurity: Pollution and depletion of freshwater sources reduce access to safe water for households and agriculture.
  • Food insecurity: Damaged land and declining fish stocks directly affect food production and nutrition.
  • Health impacts: Polluted land and water contribute to disease, unsafe living conditions, and reduced well-being.
  • Economic impacts: Communities dependent on farming, fishing, and natural resources face increasing hardship as ecosystems decline.

Addressing these issues requires ecosystem restoration, pollution reduction, sustainable resource management, and stronger community involvement. This can be done through conservation programs, education, clean water protection, and support for nature-based solutions.

Our Environmental Goals for 2030

By 2030, we will:

Restore ecosystems and reduce pollution

With community action and environmental stewardship, we will help restore critical ecosystems and reduce pollution across land and water.

Protect vulnerable communities

We will support communities at environmental risk by promoting access to cleaner water, healthier land, and safer natural surroundings.
