Youth development refers to the long-term process of supporting young people with the skills, opportunities, values, and confidence they need to become responsible and active members of society. This includes education, leadership, participation, innovation, and social inclusion.
The impacts of weak youth development are far-reaching and include:
-
Unemployment and dependency: Without proper opportunities and skills, many young people struggle to become economically independent.
-
Social exclusion: Youth who lack support and participation opportunities may feel disconnected from society and community development.
-
Loss of potential: A lack of guidance and investment in youth can prevent the country from benefiting from their creativity and energy.
-
Increased vulnerability: Young people facing inequality and limited support are more vulnerable to exploitation, frustration, and harmful influences.
-
Slower national progress: When youth are not empowered, communities and institutions lose a critical force for innovation and sustainable growth.
Addressing youth development issues requires expanding education and training opportunities, promoting leadership, supporting mental well-being, and creating platforms for participation. This can be done through community engagement, inclusive policies, and long-term investment in youth potential.
